We are pleased to announce the VitaHEAT UB3 has received an Innovative Technology contract from Vizient, Inc., the largest member-owned health care company in the country. The contract was based on a recommendation of VitaHEAT® UB3 Patient Warming Solution by hospital representatives who serve on one of Vizient’s member-led councils with expertise in this category. Innovative Technology contracts are reserved for technologies that demonstrate an ability to enhance clinical care or patient safety, and those that improve an organization’s care delivery and business model
The UB3 system is an under-body patient warming system that uses conductive ink technology, featuring both battery and plug-in AC accessory options. The ability to easily warm patients throughout the perioperative experience is a key compotenent of keeping patients in normothermia. VitaHEAT UB3 is safe and effective, easy to use, and cost efficient. It is always on and can be used throughout all perioperative phases due to the AC and Battery design.
“We are pleased that Vizient, has awarded a contact for our VitaHEAT UB3 and that we will now be part of a Vizient’s broad portfolio of solutions for their members. We are dedicated to providing innovative patient warming solutions to reduce health care costs and improve patient outcomes and this contract award will help us more quickly bring this technology to hospitals and health care professionals in Vizient’s membership,” said Peter Farmakis, CEO, VitaHEAT Medical.
VitaHEAT launched its UB3 patient warming system in January of this year following four years of product development. The system was designed under the FDA’s 21 CFR part 820 quality management system. It includes eight interactive temperature sensors to actively monitor temperature and six independent heating zones to provide consistent control of the warming surface.
“Due to the number of products and services being released and marketed as ‘innovative’, member hospitals appreciate the peer-review system in place at Vizient to help them quickly identify products worth further evaluation at their own facilities,” said Debbie Archer, director of procurement and leader of Vizient’s Innovative Technology program for suppliers. “After a review of the VitaHEAT® UB3 Patient Warming Solution, Vizient’s member-council agreed this solution offers unique and incremental benefit over other products available on the market today, and recommended it for an Innovative Technology contract.”
Vizient, Inc. represents the combined strengths of the organizations formerly known as VHA Inc., University HealthSystem Consortium, Novation and MedAssets’ Spend and Clinical Resource Management. Since 2003, nearly 2200 new and innovative products and technologies have been submitted through the Vizient Innovative Technology program. Vizient works with member-led councils and task forces to identify and review potentially innovative products. If it is determined that a product is innovative, a contract may be awarded outside of Vizient’s competitive bid cycle.
